Peace at the Park: Sound Bath Healing, May Recap

For May we got to experience sound bath healing! We were guided on a journey to relaxation by Steve Hanson from Realign Your Life Wellness Center in Mesa, AZ. Read below to learn more about what a sound bath is, how sound can help you heal, and what to expect:

What is a sound bath?

Traditionally, a sound bath is a meditative experience where those in attendance are “bathed” in sound waves.

“Most sound baths include the use of instruments such as Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls and gongs.”

During our session, Steve also brought along koshi chimes and crystal triangles to enhance our state of well being. These instruments produce waves at different frequencies to help reduce tension and promote healing in the mind, body, and spirit.

How can sound help you heal?

Research shows that music and sound can be effective in healing emotional, mental, and physical ailments, such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

According to Realign Your Life, “The chakras, or energy centers, are a fundamental influence for the physical body. So when there is blockage or disharmony within the energetic body, it can often manifest into a physical and/or emotional illness or imbalance. Sound wave frequencies from these instruments help harmonize imbalances or blockages – energetically, emotionally, or physically.”

What can you expect at a sound bath?

“You will simply relax, close your eyes and enjoy the experience. You don’t need to think about anything, you can just be.”

As you lie comfortably on a yoga mat or blanket, the sound healer will play different instruments during the sound bat, including their own voice! At the end of the session, the sound healer will gently guide your awareness back, grounding you in the present moment before concluding the sound bath.
